Scenic byways conference

Tourism and scenic byway officials will gather this week in Great Bend, Kan., for a 10-state regional conference. The 2010 Heartland Byways Conference will address such topics as byway organization, corridor management and visitor experiences.

GREAT BEND, Kan. (AP) — Tourism and scenic byway officials will gather this week in Great Bend, Kan., for a 10-state regional conference.

The 2010 Heartland Byways Conference will address such topics as byway organization, corridor management and visitor experiences.

Participants will also have a chance to see the Great Bend area’s Wetlands and Wildlife National Scenic Byway. The 77-mile route stretches between Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivira National Wildlife Refuge.

The conference gets under way Wednesday and runs through Friday.

Besides Kansas, participating states are Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

It’s the first time Kansas has hosted the conference, which took place last year in Omaha, Neb.
