Plains featuring Beatles in exhibit
Opening May 18 at Plains Art Museum, the exhibition The White Album: The Beatles Meets the Plains offers a new spin on the museum’s permanent collection by using the 35 songs from The Beatles’ 1968 album The Beatles (commonly known as The White Album) as an organizing template for the exhibition.
Each of the songs from The White Album (which includes “Revolution 1,” “Blackbird” and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”) is paired with a selection from the museum’s permanent collection. While viewing the exhibition, participants will be able to listen to the album on a mp3 player, prompting them to contemplate the connections between music and visual art and to find thematic threads and transcend different artistic expressions from different periods of time. Participants can use their own mp3 player or loan one from the museum.
The project is curated by museum director Colleen Sheehy and a team of three students: Chris Gion, Kaylyn Gerenz and Sarah Simon, along with early contributions by Carin Jorgensen and Rebecca Seelig Donley.
