Kourajian declares his run for mayor

Charlie Kourajian has announced that he is running for mayor of Jamestown in the June 8 primary election. Kourajian was mayor of Jamestown from January 1997 to July 2006 when he lost his bid for a third term to current Mayor Clarice Liechty.

Kourajian was mayor of Jamestown from January 1997 to July 2006 when he lost his bid for a third term to current Mayor Clarice Liechty.

Beginning his political career in 1974 as alderman from the fifth ward, Kourajian presently serves as a councilperson on the City Council.

He is a Jamestown native and a graduate of Jamestown High School. He and his wife, Marge, have four grown children, two stepchildren, 12 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Kourajian said he is running for mayor “to bring back somecredibility to the James-town City Council and to get some of the pending projects completed.”

“My years as mayor and my council experience give me a good understanding of what it takes to lead our city forward,” said Kourajian.

“One of my goals is to restore good communication between local groups

working for the betterment of Jamestown.”

Kourajian is employed part time as ambassador of the Main Street/ Downtown Association and is a member of St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks, Eagles, American Legion, 40 & 8 and the Alfred Dickey Library Foundation.
