Dewald speaks at Kiwanis meeting

Beth Dewald, executive director of the Buffalo Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, was the guest speaker at the April 5 Kiwanis meeting on the topic of “Business Disaster Readiness.” Dewald challenged members with the question “how prepared are we with continuation plans for disaster situations, both at home and at our businesses?” She explained how important that continuation plan is along with ensuring that our employees are well trained on business continuation. Dewald stressed that every business and home should have a disaster supply kit and what items should be included in that kit.

The Red Cross will begin utilizing a “Ready Rating Scale” the summer of 2010. This scale will be used to determine how well prepared people are for a disaster. The Red Cross also provides guidance and support to help with preparation.

Kiwanis members delivering Meals on Wheels on April 6 included Kent Horton, Wes Hart, Kenrad Pederson, Doug Klaudt, Claudia Jacobson and Joanne Anderson.

The next Kiwanis meeting is scheduled for April 19 with past MN-DAK District governor, Bill Lardy from Bismarck, presenting Distinguished Club awards. Eric Tuchscher, program chairperson, will introduce the three James-town College award recipients at this meeting.

Kiwanis meetings are held at noon at the Lantern Room.
