BISMARCK (AP) — Three rural electric cooperatives in southwest and central North Dakota that have been working to restore electricity since a Good Friday snow storm say about 600 people remain without power.

Heavy snow and strong winds crippled the electrical infrastructure in the region, toppling about 10,000 power poles and downing hundreds of miles of electrical lines. As many as 8,400 people were without power.

The co-general manager of the Mor-Gran-Sou (mohr-gran-SOO'), Roughrider Electric and Slope Electric co-ops says it will be another week before everyone's lights are on.

Gov. John Hoeven is seeking a federal disaster declaration for 12 counties and the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation in the wake of the storm, along with federal assistance for ranchers.
