Midnight Thursday tax deadline nears

People who have not yet filed their tax returns are running out of time.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — People who have not yet filed their tax returns are running out of time.

North Dakota Tax Commissioner Cory Fong is reminding taxpayers that midnight Thursday is the deadline to file individual returns. Late returns are subject to penalties and interest.

Fong is encouraging people who are pushing the deadline to file their return electronically, to avoid the hassle of finding a paper form, envelope and stamp at the last minute.

The Internal Revenue Service says that at this point in the tax season, about one-fourth of taxpayers still have not filed. About 7 percent will seek an extension.
