CATHAY, N.D. (AP) — A 53-year-old man has been arrested on an attempted murder charge in the small central North Dakota town of Cathay after a standoff that lasted several hours.

Members of a Minot SWAT team were called to assist Wells County authorities about 11 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities said the man was taken into custody about 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

State's Attorney Kathleen Trosen said the man fired a shot at another person and then holed up in his residence. She declined to provide more details but said the person who was shot at was not hit.

An initial court appearance for the man had not been scheduled by late Thursday morning and he had not been formally charged.
