The light-hearted play “Eurydice“ by Sara Ruhl, winner of the MacArthur Foundation‘s genius grantis being staged this month by the University of North Dakota Department of Theater Arts. It‘s directed by Theater Arts Chair Kathleen McLennan.

Area cast members are Nasty/Interesting Man: Ben Klipfel, Ashley, who portrays the Nasty/Interesting Man, and Megan Lonski, Valley City, who has the role of Eurydice.

Eurydice — based on a famous Greek myth, Orpheus and Eurydice — is written more like a modern poem than a play. Ruhl‘s work tells the story from Eurydice‘s point of view and includes an original plot twist — Eurydice‘s reconnection to her long-lost father. Most of the play takes place in the Underworld, where everything is unexpected — trains that are not trains, elevators that rain, walking-talking stones and rooms made of string.

Eurydice appears at 7:30 p.m. April 20-24 at the UND Burtness Theater. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students with a valid student I.D. For ticket information and reservations, call 701-777-2587.
