Lowen indicted by federal grand jury for Akeley, Minn., bank robbery; local charges dismissed

PARK RAPIDS, Minn. – Edward Joseph Lowen, a suspect in the Feb. 26 robbery of an Akeley branch bank, was indicted last week by a federal grand jury.
On Tuesday, Hubbard County Attorney Don Dearstyne moved to dismiss local charges against Lowen as the federal indictment was unsealed.
Dearstyne said federal marshals took Lowen into custody at the Hubbard County Correctional Center in Park Rapids and transported him to Bemidji where he was scheduled to make a first appearance on the federal bank robbery charge.
