Panel upholds firing of Fargo official
The Fargo Civil Service Commission has upheld the firing of the city's public works director.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The Fargo Civil Service Commission has upheld the firing of the city's public works director.
Commission members on Friday said Fargo officials acted properly in all aspects in firing Al Weigel (WY’guhl). Weigel can appeal the decision to the full City Commission.
Weigel earlier this week argued for reinstatement and said he had the best interests of the city at heart when he hired his business partners to retrofit city trucks with a tracking system.
City Administrator Pat Zavoral countered that Weigel personally gained from the project and that Weigel intimidated staff about the matter.
The role of the Civil Service Commission is to ensure that disciplinary actions are not motivated by politics.
