Dunn County to vote on commission size

Residents of Dunn County will decide in June whether to increase the size of the County Commission from three members to five.

MANNING, N.D. (AP) — Residents of Dunn County will decide in June whether to increase the size of the County Commission from three members to five.

Andy Schmidt and Ray Kadrmas petitioned to put the measure on the June 8 primary ballot. They say that with an increase in oil activity, there should be a larger commission to deal with such matters as attending state and regional meetings and dealing with road problems.

Auditor Reinard Hauck says it would cost the county about $78,800 a year to add two commissioners to the board.

A second measure on the ballot asks whether commissioners would continue to be elected at large or whether the county should be divided into five districts.
