Plea deal reached in N.D. newspaper shotgun case

A man accused of hiding a shotgun in the Grand Forks Herald newspaper building has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A man accused of hiding a shotgun in the Grand Forks Herald newspaper building has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Twenty-three-year-old Philip Manaigre (muh-NAG’ was set to plead guilty on Monday, but the judge said he needed more time to review Manaigre's psychological and chemical dependency evaluations before deciding whether to approve the plea deal.

Under its terms, Manaigre would plead guilty to reckless endangerment and serve a three-month jail sentence and 18 months of supervised probation.

A hearing is set for June 28.

Manaigre worked for a custodial firm hired to clean the Herald's building at night. Police say Manaigre told officers he had the gun for self protection, and forgot he had left it at the newspaper building when the custodial firm transferred him last December.
