The Jamestown High School soccer team experienced something new Tuesday, something the Blue Jays want to stay away from as much as possible throughout the year — defeat.
Bismarck Century scored with eight seconds remaining in the game to hand the Blue Jays their first loss of the season, 1-0.
“It was hard for us to build momentum,” said Jays coach Donovan Gibson. “We weren’t able to possess the ball long enough for us to amount anything offensively.”
It marks the second straight game the Jays had been held scoreless after Minot held them scoreless Friday in Jamestown in what ended in a 0-0 tie.
“We need more confidence with the ball,” Gibson said. “We hope that we can get there soon because we have games against a very good West Fargo team and a very good Shanley team.”
Jamestown (4-1-2) had scored 19 goals in its first five games but has been held scoreless the last two contests, something the Jays won’t be able to do against a Fargo Shanley team that finished third last season in the state tournament.
Jade Lind nearly picked up her second straight shutout and fourth of the season, but Cramer was able to sneak one by just before time expired.
“Jade played great up until that point,” Gibson said. “Keeping us in the game, again, was Jade.”
The sophomore goalkeeper made seven saves on the day, while the Jamestown offense produced four shots.
“They were much more confident with the ball,” said Gibson. “We need to work on our possessions.”
Jamestown will open the East/West Crossover Friday against Fargo Shanley at 3:30 p.m. and follow with West Fargo at 5:30 p.m. The Crossover will be held in Jamestown.
