Students awarded at Woodmen contest

Three students from St. John’s Academy were named winners in the Modern Woodmen Civic Oration Contest held April 19. Megan Larson was named first place winner, Savannah Montoya won second place and Kali Carlson received third place. Their names will be engraved on the school’s plaque, and each student received a trophy and a gold pin award. Gold award pins were also given to the next four ranking finalists: Ben Hanson, Madison Barnes, Jacob Ament and Nick Holben.

Nearly 100,000 students compete in the contest each year.

Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal life insurance society with its home office in Rock Lake, Ill., made the contest available free of charge to help young people develop public speaking skills.
