Guard to speak to VC children

Members of the North Dakota National Guard will take time to honor the service and sacrifice of children of military personnel in the Valley City, N.D., community on Thursday. “Honoring the Children of Military Members,” a half-hour presentation at each of the town’s elementary schools, will feature speakers and a color guard.

Staff Sgt. Jonathan Coleman, a North Dakota Army National Guard Soldier from Valley City, and retired Sgt. Maj. Rod Olin, of Jamestown, will thank the children for the sacrifices they have made while a loved one has been deployed. They also will present 42 certificates to all of the students who have family serving in the military. Twenty-eight certificates will be presented at Jefferson Elementary School during the 1 p.m. presentation and 14 will be given at Washington Elementary School at 2 p.m., both on Thursday.
