Letter to the editor: School Board’s policy on allowing use of facility right

It seems to me that the complaints by a few citizens against the Jamestown Public School District for allowing an educational Worldview Weekend Seminar to be held in a school facility are immature and unjustified. People with a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and a loving desire to serve our creator would not object to a Christian religious meeting held in any public facility. But, if I understand everything correctly, no student could attend without a permission note from the parents, so I think the school policy is fair and just to protect non-Christian parents from exposing their son or daughter to a philosophy that they think is not good for them to hear.

Non-Christians have this right, and in the days before my own new life in Christ, I may have demanded this same protection that these complaining parents received.

This same policy will also protect Christian families from anti-Christian forums and secular drivel.

Public facilities are costly to the taxpayers and should rightly be used for the public good whenever possible and as often as they are available to groups that are peaceful and non-violent in nature.

If I were a Christian living in Jamestown I would flood the School Board and administration with commendations for enforcing and allowing a just and fair policy to continue. These concerned people were treated with consideration just as they should be and this school policy is apparently written with respect to all persons’ viewpoints. Parents should be the final authority in choosing what they want their children to be exposed to.
