Drunk destroys Grand Forks workshop

A drunk driver in Grand Forks did an estimated $14,000 in damage when she crashed into a utility pole and then plowed through a backyard workshop. Timothy McLennon said he and his family were asleep in their house when an explosive noise woke them about 1 a.m. Wednesday. He said when he walked out in his back yard his 12-by-20-foot workshop was a pile of debris and tire tracks ran across the floor.

GRAND FORKS (AP) — A drunk driver in Grand Forks did an estimated $14,000 in damage when she crashed into a utility pole and then plowed through a backyard workshop.

Timothy McLennon said he and his family were asleep in their house when an explosive noise woke them about 1 a.m. Wednesday. He said when he walked out in his back yard his 12-by-20-foot workshop was a pile of debris and tire tracks ran across the floor.

Damage is estimated at $12,000. Police said the drunk driver also did about $2,000 in damage to a power pole.

Forty-eight-year-old Patty Buckholtz pleaded guilty later in the day to drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident. She was fined $652 and must receive a chemical dependency evaluation to avoid six days in jail.
