FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The Agriculture Department has lowered corn production estimates in the Dakotas for last year after resurveying some farmers affected by the weather-delayed fall harvest.
North Dakota's 2009 production is now estimated at 200.1 million bushels, a drop of about 4 percent from the estimate released in early January.
South Dakota's production is pegged at 706.7 million bushels, down about 2 percent from the earlier estimate.
The revisions reduced the U.S. corn production total only slightly, from 13.2 billion bushels to 13.1 billion.
