Another appeal for fired Fargo official

Fargo's former public works director is appealing to the City Commission in another attempt to get his job back.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Fargo's former public works director is appealing to the City Commission in another attempt to get his job back.

Al Weigel (WY’guhl) was fired in late March. The Fargo Civil Service Commission later upheld that decision.

The appeal to the City Commission is Weigel's last chance to have his termination overturned through city procedures. After that, he would have to go to court.

Mayor Dennis Walaker says the City Commission likely will hold a special hearing. The panel could set a date during its regular meeting Monday.

Weigel was fired for violating city policy by steering city business to Epic Solutions of Fargo without getting quotes from competing firms. Epic's president and vice president are partners with Weigel in Quad Investments, a company that leases space to Epic. Weigel denies any wrongdoing.
