The northeast North Dakota town has decided to contract with the Grand Forks County sheriff’s department for law enforcement. Two deputies will be hired in the town of 1,430 people.
Mayor Dale Trosen says the contract for $108,000 a year will be slightly less than the city has been paying for its own police force.
Until the police chief left three months ago, the city’s law enforcement consisted of a full-time chief, a full-time officer and a part-time weekend officer. The full-time officer will get one of the deputy positions. The part-time officer has said he has no interest.
The new arrangement is scheduled to begin July 1.
