Buffalo naming contest narrows

The Buffalo City Tourism Foundation has announced the top five names in the Jamestown Name That Buffalo Contest. The top five entries for the new name for the World’s Largest Buffalo monument, which are now before a public vote in Jamestown, are Sir James, Dakota Thunder, Beauford, Dacotah Spirit and Benny.

The top five entries for the new name for the World’s Largest Buffalo monument, which are now before a public vote in Jamestown, are Sir James, Dakota Thunder, Beauford, Dacotah Spirit and Benny.

More than 3,500 entries were received in the contest. A panel of seven judges chose those five names to put before the public.

People can vote for their favorite names by putting money into the ballot boxes at Jamestown Implement, Gate City Bank, KSJB/KISS Radio Station, Big Dog Radio Station and Gladstone Inn & Suites. The voting will end on July 12. People can vote as many times as they desire.

On July 13, the winning name will be announced. Whoever suggested the winning name will receive $1,000.

A name dedication ceremony is planned for July 24 at the World’s Largest Buffalo in Frontier Village. The time and schedule of events have not been announced.
