BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Secretary of State Al Jaeger says a proposed ballot measure to allow bottle rocket sales in North Dakota is ready for circulation.
The initiative says anyone who is at least 18 years old may buy bottle rockets in North Dakota. It would reverse a ban on bottle rocket sales that the Legislature approved last year.
Fireworks stand owner Lu Ann Moore of Barney is leading the effort. She says the existing law doesn’t allow people to buy bottle rockets in North Dakota — but they’re allowed to possess them and shoot them off. She says that’s ridiculous.
To put the issue on the November ballot, Moore will need to get almost 13,000 petition signatures by Aug. 4. She has until May of next year to get the needed names.
