Enderlin-Maple Valley knocked off the 2010 Class B Region 1 baseball champions not once, but twice in LaMoure on Thursday, sending the Eagles to the state Class B baseball tournament in Minot on June 3.

Eagles starting pitcher Dillan Anderson kept the LaMoure-Litchville-Marion Loboes off the scoreboard until the sixth inning in the first game of the best-of-three series. The Loboes’ Gaige Dunn smacked an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Cole Gentzkow to cut the Eagles’ advantage to 2-1.

But Enderlin-Maple Valley answered back in the top of the seventh with its third run of the ballgame to win 3-1. Anderson notched the victory, while L-L-M’s Aaron Stemen shouldered the loss, striking out seven over all seven innings.

In the clincher, Eagles pitchers Karl Bartholomay and Taran Langland teamed up to shutout the Loboes 2-0, doubling the Loboes’ loss record (23-4) in one evening.

Bartholomay struck out three and walked none over 4 2/3, while Langland took the mound in the fifth to shut the door.

The Eagles scored a run in the fourth and added another in the sixth. Anderson smacked a double and recorded both of Enderlin-Maple Valley’s RBIs.

Zach Stemen went the distance on the hill for the Loboes, allowing five hits while striking out two and walking two.
