Harold Tweit
Harold Bernard Tweit, 86, Aneta, N.D., formerly of Valley City and Walum, N.D., died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Aneta Parkview Health Center, Aneta. Mr. Tweit was born Jan. 20, 1924, on the family farm near Walum, the son of Andrew and Helena (Legreid) Tweit.
Harold Bernard Tweit, 86, Aneta, N.D., formerly of Valley City and Walum, N.D., died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Aneta Parkview Health Center, Aneta.
Mr. Tweit was born Jan. 20, 1924, on the family farm near Walum, the son of Andrew and Helena (Legreid) Tweit. He was baptized and confirmed at Eidfjord Lutheran Church, rural Walum. He started school in Oberon, N.D., and in the third grade transferred to Dover School, near Walum, where he graduated from high school in 1942. He entered the U.S. Navy on July 3, 1942. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 10, 1945, as a seaman first class. He married Gladys Sorenson on May 14, 1955, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Oberon. He farmed near Hannaford for several years, retiring in 1981. He also worked as a cement finisher on all 150 missile bases between the Canadian border and Interstate 94 during the 1970s. After retirement, he lived in Dazey, Sibley, Valley City and Maddock, all North Dakota, and most recently lived at the Aneta Parkview Health Center. He was a lifetime member of Eidfjord Lutheran Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Joan Duckworth, Minto, N.D., and Julie Tweit (Jan Erickson), Andover, Minn.; two sons, John and Joe, both of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister: Valborg Thompson, Devils Lake, N.D.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Noralf, Theodore, Einar and Olaf; and two sisters, Anna Kloster and Hjordis Poulsen.
Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19, Eidfjord Lutheran Church, rural Walum, with the Rev. Jerry Rosin officiating.
Visitation: none planned. Arrangements by Oliver Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
Burial: Eidfjord Cemetery, rural Walum.
