Letter to the editor: Democrats can’t simply blame everything on Bush

I’m sorry to see Sens. Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad and Rep. Earl Pomeroy relentlessly blaming the country’s troubles on President George W. Bush, who has been out of office for two years. The fact is the Democrats have controlled both houses of Congress since 2006 and the White House since 2008, and things have gotten progressively worse for our country.

Historic trillion-dollar deficits, a catastrophic health care bill, inaction on passing a sensible budget, and most importantly, a failure to create jobs — all of these are not the product of Republicans and the Bush administration, but fall squarely at the doorstep of the Obama White House and the Nancy Pelosi-Harry Reid House and Senate.

And make no mistake: our delegation is in grim lockstep with them. Although the delegation has a collective history of more than 70 years in Washington, not once — ever — have I heard any of them take responsibility for what is happening to our country.

We need a change in Washington, and it can’t come too soon.
