WILLMAR, Minn. – A slow-moving thunderstorm rolled across central Minnesota’s Kandiyohi County Friday morning, dropping more than 2.5 inches of rain and again flooding streets and intersections here.

The street flooding from the 6:30 a.m. storm came from rainfall, pooling water from a drainage area and water backup once the drainage ditches filled up.

City and law enforcement officials had to block travel on some intersections and had to rescue stranded motorists.

Standing water flooded from intersections into lawns, backyards and even into some basements. Once the rain began to subside, shortly before 8 a.m., water levels started to subside by 8:30 a.m.
