The Jamestown Legion Eagles fared respectable at the Red River Diamond Classic in Dilworth, Minn., on Saturday and Sunday.

Post 14 began the tournament with a 13-2 loss in five innings against Litchfield, Minn., on Friday, but the team bounced back to split their remaining four contests over the weekend.

But first the Eagles were forced to whether out a second five inning lopsided loss against Alexandria on Saturday.

Alexandria battered Jamestown starter Danny Fisher for 13 runs on 13 hits. Alexandria scored four runs in the first, and tacked on another five runs in the second, rolling to a 13-1 victory.

Brandon Gange went 2-for-2 with a double for Jamestown, while Dakota Walker drove in Post 14’s lone run with a double of his own in the second.

Post 14 finally got the bats going against Detroit Lakes in the team’s second game on Saturday with a pair of big innings.

The Eagles hung a 5 on the scoreboard in both the third and the sixth innings, downing Detroit Lakes 10-5. Riley Schafer pitched a strong seven innings for Post 14, allowing five runs on six hits. Detroit Lakes committed 5 errors in the game.

Jake Stilwell, Walker, Kasey Gengler and Chris Lane all had a multi-hit game and drove in at least one RBI each for Post 14.

The Eagles carried that momentum into Sunday, when they dominated the Moorhead Joes 12-0 in a game that began at 9 a.m.

Gengler tossed a two-hit shutout from the mound for the Eagles, while Tim Smith smacked a pair of doubles, Walker accounted for three RBIs and Reid Monson racked up four RBIs in the game.

Post 14’s final game of the tournament ended in a bitter loss to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 4-2.

The Eagles led 2-1 after five innings, but a three-run sixth inning by D-G-F sealed Post 14’s fate. Matt Dahl went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs at the dish for D-G-F.

“It went pretty good. Obviously, we’d have liked to have won that last game,” Post 14 coach Shane Schoeneberg said. “Dakota Walker pitched really well and got out of some tough jams. He made a good pitch to (Dahl), low and away with two strikes on him and he poked it over Brady’s head.

“It was a good test. It was good to play these non-conference games before we get to the bulk of our schedule.”

Post 14 (4-7) hosts Groton, S.D., on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Jack Brown Stadium.

“We’re hoping to pick up a couple of wins on Tuesday, especially in these non-conference games where we can get everyone out there,” Schoeneberg said. “Our pitchers have been doing a good job throwing strikes and our defense is making a lot of plays behind them.”
