N.D., Ghana military officials make wager over World Cup match

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The commander of the North Dakota National Guard has made a friendly wager with the chief of defense for the Ghana Armed Forces on the outcome of Saturday’s World Cup soccer match between the two countries.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The commander of the North Dakota National Guard has made a friendly wager with the chief of defense for the Ghana Armed Forces on the outcome of Saturday’s World Cup soccer match between the two countries.

If the U.S. wins, Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk (sprin-suh-NAT’-ik) gets a Ghanaian flag. If Ghana wins, Sprynczynatyk will present an American flag to Lt. Gen. Peter Blay.

The North Dakota National Guard and the Republic of Ghana have been participating since 2004 in a Defense Department-sponsored partnership program that pairs a state’s Army and Air National Guard with another country, to develop economic, political and military ties.
