Carlson sets school record

North Dakota State University’s Whitney Carlson was at her best Saturday at the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
The junior jumper broke her own school record in the senior women’s long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 2 1/2 inches, beating her old mark by one inch.
NDSU senior Heather Zander finished 13th in the senior women’s heptathlon with 5,357 points but her best performance came in the long jump (18-8.5).
Redshirt freshman Toni Tollefson didn’t clear the opening height of 5 feet, 8 3/4 inches in the high jump, while former Bison Amanda Smock placed fourth in the triple jump (44-7).
After finishing fourth on Saturday in the 800 meter semifinals on Saturday, Laura Januszewski went on to finish seventh in the finals Sunday with a time of 2:01.76. Leslie Brost didn’t meet the height in the pole vault.
