Martha M. Diede, 96, Lehr, N.D., died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, N.D. Martha Schlauch was born Jan. 18, 1914, at rural Alfred, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Christina (Schrum) Schlauch.

Martha Schlauch was born Jan. 18, 1914, at rural Alfred, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Christina (Schrum) Schlauch. She grew up there and attended a rural country school. She worked as a maid and children’s caregiver. She married Jacob Diede on Nov. 27, 1933, at Hazen, N.D. They lived at Alfred for a few years then moved to a farm 18 miles south of Kulm, N.D. She worked in the Grenz store for several years. She was a member of the Lehr Seventh-day Adventist Church, Lehr. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and baking.

She is survived by two daughters, Lucille (Gene) Rexine, Lehr, and Luella (Joe) Vakoch, Fargo, N.D.; four sisters, Johanna Fey and Esther Hildebrand, both Ashley, N.D., Hulda Gruenich, Aberdeen, S.D., and Ella Davis, Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a stepgrandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters; nine brothers; a son-in-law, Elroy Ruff; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Ruff.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Seventh-day Adventist Church, Lehr.

Prayer service: 7 p.m. today, Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.

Visitation: 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial: Lehr City Cemetery, Lehr.
