The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a dog bite incident that occurred at 5142 Millarton Ave. in Millarton, N.D., Tuesday, according to Dave Orr, Stutsman County sheriff.
According to the sheriff’s office, 9-month-old Aveahya LaMont was bitten by a female American pit bull terrier dog at the family home. The attack occurred when Aveahya crawled toward the dog while it was eating.
Aveahya was staying with her grandmother, Tyleigh Williamson, while her mother, Heaven Williamson, was incarcerated at the Stutsman County Correctional Center. Heaven Williamson owns the dog.
Tyleigh Williamson had a neighbor destroy the dog and preserve the head for testing.
“We need to get the vet report and together with the police report we’ll decide how to proceed,” Orr said. “We need to have that information to decide what agencies will be involved.”
Orr said there were reports of other dogs at the residence.
The sheriff’s office report indicated Aveahya was transported by her grandmother to a Fargo hospital for consultations with a plastic surgeon Monday night.
