The road across Pipestem Dam will be closed this week for the installation of ground-monitoring equipment, according to Bob Martin, dam manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

“Drill crews will install advanced ground movement instruments in the dam,” he said. “The crews will be set up right on the road near the spillway, necessitating the blockage of the road.”

Martin said access to the biking and hiking trail is still available from the road near the dam offices and the shooting range is accessible from the road to the south.

Construction activity is expected to be complete by July 23. The work is part of an ongoing project to update the monitoring capabilities at the dam.
