No one was injured Wednesday night when a fire destroyed an empty house 1 mile north of Spiritwood Lake, according to the Jamestown Rural Fire Department.

The call for the fire came in around 8:15 p.m. and 14 firefighters were on the scene until nearly 12:30 a.m., said Rick Woehl, assistant chief of the Jamestown Rural Fire Department.

Five units were on the scene from the Jamestown Rural Fire Department, and one assisted from the Courtenay Fire Department, he said.

The house was “fully involved” with flames in the walls and floor joists, Woehl said.

“Once it gets to that point it’s pretty tough to get in there and get that out,” he said.

The home was nearly empty except for a freezer and a kitchen table. Woehl said he estimates the damage at around $10,000.

The family was moving into another home about 100 feet away from the blaze, he said.

“At this point all we can say is it’s being investigated,” Woehl said.
