Post 19 advances to championship

The LaMoure Legion Post 19 baseball team has earned its way into the championship game of the Section 2 American Legion Baseball Tournament being held this week at the Edgeley Sports Complex in Edgeley.

Post 19 first took down Linton 5-4 in 11 innings on Wednesday, behind a solid relief effort by pitcher Gaige Dunn. Dunn came into the game in the seventh inning and struck out 10 batters, while walking three, to notch the win.

Cole Gentzkow came up big in Post 19’s first game of the tournament, going 3 for 6 against Linton with a double and three RBIs.

LaMoure moved on to face the host team, Edgeley, in semifinal action on Thursday. Post 19 came out the winner, 3-1.

Aaron Stemen struck out 10 hitters over seven innings of work to record the victory for LaMoure. Dunn got the offense rolling in the first inning with a double and 2 RBIs.

Ellendale was playing Oakes on Friday when The Jamestown Sun went to press. The winner of that game went on to face Edgeley for the right to face LaMoure (22-8) in today’s championship game.

The Section 2 championship game is scheduled to be played this evening at 5 p.m.
