Man to plead on weapons charge

BISMARCK (AP) — A man who was recently released from a Minnesota prison said he will plead guilty to a weapons charge in North Dakota. James McGowan is charged in federal court with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

BISMARCK (AP) — A man who was recently released from a Minnesota prison said he will plead guilty to a weapons charge in North Dakota.

James McGowan is charged in federal court with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

McGowan was convicted in January 2008 of terroristic threats in Ramsey County, Minn. Authorities said he had a .22-caliber handgun and ammunition in his possession while in North Dakota in the summer of 2009.

McGowan was arrested in May after serving time in a Minnesota county correctional center on a previous conviction.

A sentencing date has not been set.
