BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Spring rains caused extensive damage to rural dams in two North Dakota counties, and now officials want state help in paying for repairs.

The state Water Commission is supposed to consider two requests for almost $500,000 on Wednesday.

Cass County officials want almost $115,000 to remedy soil erosion damage to the Absaraka Dam's emergency spillway. The job will cost close to $1 million.

In LaMoure County, officials want about $373,000 to repair the Cottonwood Creek emergency spillway at Lake LaMoure. The 500-acre lake is about five miles south of LaMoure, and has a swimming beach, playground and camping facilities.

The total Lake LaMoure spillway repair bill will be about $2.5 million.
