Compton leads Greenbrier field

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) — Double heart transplant recipient Erik Compton shot a 7-under 63 on Thursday in the inaugural Greenbrier Classic to share the first-round lead with rookie Matt Every. U.S. Senior Open

SAMMAMISH, Wash. — Bruce Vaughan shot 4-under 66 to take a two-stroke lead over Loren Roberts and amateur Tim Jackson in the U.S. Senior Open.

Women’s British Open

SOUTHPORT, England — Taiwan’s Yani Tseng and Australia’s Katherine Hull shot 4-under 68s to share the first-round lead in the Women’s British Open.

Tseng, the Kraft Nabisco winner in April for her second major title, finished her bogey-free round at Royal Birkdale with a birdie and an eagle.

Irish Open

KILLARNEY, Ireland — England’s David Howell shot a 7-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead in the Irish Open at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club.

Ireland’s Damien McGrane and England’s David Howell opened with 65s.

England’s Robert Rock was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard — his scored on the 14th and 15th holes were transposed — after shooting a 65.
