BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A registered sex offender could face life in prison after a federal jury found him guilty of abusing a young child in the Dunseith area.
Eighteen-year-old Deven Poitra is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 25 for aggravated sexual abuse of a child and failure to update his sex offender registration.
The U.S. attorney's office says Poitra sexually assaulted the young child in a home in the Dunseith area on Dec. 20.
Poitra was ordered to register as a sex offender after his conviction for gross sexual imposition, stemming from an April 2007 incident in Rolette County. The U.S. attorney's office says Poitra didn't notify law enforcement when he moved to Dunseith.
