MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Minot State University and Dakota College at Bottineau are launching a pilot program this fall for students who don't qualify for admission to a four-year university but still want to pursue a college education.

Students will take 24 college credits from both the Bottineau school and Minot State, while staying in Minot. By doing so they will earn a certificate in college studies and can begin classes the next year as a Minot State student.

MSU Admissions Dean Kevin Harmon says the Passport Program will admit 25 students the first year.

Other colleges in the state have similar programs. For example, the University of North Dakota has an arrangement with Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, and North Dakota State with the State College of Science at Wahpeton.
