N.D. has fourth West Nile case of the year

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The state Health Department has confirmed a fourth human case of West Nile virus in North Dakota.

Officials say the Burleigh County woman was hospitalized.

It is the second human case in Burleigh County this year. There also have been human cases in Ward County and Bottineau County, and a case in a Burleigh County dog.

West Nile virus was first identified in North Dakota in 2002. Since then, nearly 1,300 human cases of the mosquito-borne illness have been reported, but only one case was confirmed last year.
