The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame in Medora will receive the Cowboy Museum of the Year Award at the National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration in Texas this week.

“It puts us in a whole different class,” Executive Director Darrell Dorgan said Wednesday. “It tells us we’ve done something right and that’s kind of gratifying.”

The symposium runs today through Sunday in Lubbock, Texas and the Medora museum will be recognized, complete with a saddle as a trophy and “the accolades that come with it,” Dorgan said.

A visitor to the museum stopped in about a year and a half ago and nominated it for the award.

Willard Schnell, Dickinson, is a founding director at the museum and is also a board member.

The National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration, Inc. and the American Cowboy Culture Association, Inc. put on the Texas celebration.
