BCN issues fail in election

Officials at Barnes County North School said voter turnout was heavy for the special election Monday to determine if a new centrally located school facility would be built.
The unofficial tally Monday evening showed the issue failed, according to Doug Jacobson, superintendent of the school in a phone interview.
He estimated about a 50 percent yes vote on the issue to build a new school facility. The measure needed 60 percent to pass. The measure to increase the schools debt limit received less than 50 percent and also needed 60 percent to pass. Both measures needed to pass in order for the project to proceed.
“It’s great to get the good voter turnout,” he said. “We wanted to have every voice heard.”
Jacobson said election results would not be officially released until after 10 p.m. Monday when the school board met to canvass the election and declare the results official.
Due to print deadlines the complete results will be made available in a follow-up story in the Wednesday edition of The Jamestown Sun.
