Employees at the Goodrich plant in Jamestown face a one-week furlough in October, according to Laura Neel, marketing specialist for Goodrich. Each employee is being asked to take one of two weeks off with the plant continuing operation during the period.

Neel said she believed this type of furlough had been used at the Jamestown Goodrich plant in the past. She also said she was unaware of any other furloughs planned for the future.

“The demand all hinges on the customer needs as far as the product,” she said. “It is all a matter of what the airlines need.”

On a positive note, Neel said a new contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to develop a military pallet system would be centered at the Jamestown plant. The product is expected to be in development for about a year and a half.
