The City Council’s Public Works Committee plans to explore residential recycling options with the intent to implement the program next spring or summer.
The committee voted 3-1 at its meeting today to go ahead with the program, but it wants city staff to present a proposal on city operation of it. It also wants proposals from private firms for third party operation of the program. The committee plans to go through the options in January.
Before the vote, the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce Recycling Task Force presented its findings and cost estimates. Its first proposal was to bid out the entire recycling program to an outside vendor. The second proposal had the city collecting recyclables and transporting them to a third party recycling location.
