The Jamestown Planning Commission held a brief regular meeting Monday. The agenda included no actionable items but did include an interim report.

“We have no formal business to conduct,” said Harley Trefz, chairman of the commission. “And the research on the proposed Auditor’s Lot ordinance is not complete.”

Auditor’s lots are defined as a surveyed parcel with a map drawn by a surveyor and pins placed at the corners for future reference, Trefz said. The auditor’s lot defines the parcel but doesn’t have to be approved by the Planning Commission as to road or alley access or other issues associated with community planning.

Trefz said the commission is exploring asking the city council to pass an ordinance requiring a plat of any parcel of land before a building permit would be issued.

“The plat is a plan including lots and streets and alleys,” he said. “Plats need to be approved before they can be filed.”

Trefz named fellow commission members Chuck Purdy and Harold Bensch to a subcommittee to continue research on the topic.
