Optimist Club honors athletes

Laura Kraft and Nick Erickson of Jamestown High School and Amanda Athon of Jamestown College have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Kraft became the first three-time state golf champion in North Dakota history, winning the state tournament at Jamestown Country Club on Oct. 5. She finished three shots ahead of Sarah Storandt of Fargo Shanley. Kraft finished her stellar career with 20 wins. She’s headed to the University of Missouri next fall.

Erickson, a senior on the JHS football team, had a strong all-around game on both the offensive and defensive line for the Blue Jays in their 34-27 win over Grand Forks Central on Oct. 8.

Athon, a junior from Arlington, Texas, on the Jimmie women’s wrestling team, went 3-0 at the season-opening Oklahoma City University Duals on Oct. 8-9. Two of her wins were pins.
