City of Williston hiring lobbyist

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — The city of Williston is hiring a lobbyist.

Mayor Ward Koeser says a main reason is the oil boom in western North Dakota and its effects on the city.

The Williston Herald reports that the City Commission approved $25,000 plus expenses to retain the services of Joel Gilbertson, a member of the Vogel Law Firm in Bismarck.

Koeser says Gilbertson will attend meetings in Bismarck, speak on behalf of the city and keep Williston officials up to date on meetings and events.

Koeser says the hiring does not mean that he and other city officials will be stepping away from attending meetings and testifying before the Legislature.
