N.D. man sentenced on sexual abuse charge

U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that on Nov. 4, David J. Norquay, 43, of Dunseith, N.D., was sentenced before U.S. District Court Judge Daniel L. Hovland for the crime of sexual abuse.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that on Nov. 4, David J. Norquay, 43, of Dunseith, N.D., was sentenced before U.S. District Court Judge Daniel L. Hovland for the crime of sexual abuse. Norquay pleaded guilty to the charge on Aug. 5.

Hovland sentenced Norquay to eight years and four months in federal

prison, to be followed by 10 years of supervised release. Norquay was ordered to pay restitution of $926.83 and a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund.

Norquay was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

In the early morning hours of June 23, 2007, Norquay went to a residence in the Dunseith area. Norquay entered a bedroom where a 16-year-old was located and engaged in a sexual act with her, authorities said.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Turtle Mountain

Agency and Belcourt Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandi Sasse Russell prosecuted the case.
