The Jamestown College Look Beyond Committee is hosting a “Focus on Korea” festival from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, in room L2 of the Nafus Student Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Jamestown College currently has 20 students from South Korea. They will share the food, games and fashion of their culture. Attendees will learn Korean games, see photos and videos depicting South Korea, learn to write their names and other words in Korean at calligraphy stations and sample Korean rice balls. Students will also model Hanboks (traditional Korean dress).

The Jamestown College International Students Organization and Alpha Mu Gamma (foreign language honor society) are assisting with the event.

Jamestown College has established several agreements with colleges and universities in South Korea, paving the way for student and faculty exchanges and collaborative projects.

“The students not only learn from us but they enrich our campus and teach us about their culture as well,” said Dr. Gary Watts, vice president for academic affairs. “This Focus on Korea event will give our friends from Korea a formal opportunity to inform us about life in Korea.”

The Look Beyond Committee at Jamestown College plans activities which encourage students and community members to look beyond to learn about other people and cultures.
