No ‘Big Dog’ kids Christmas party this year

For the first holiday season in nearly a decade there will be no Big Dog Needy Kids Christmas Party, according to the events founder Tim Ingstad, better known as J. Jason Rockefeller or Rocky from KYNU radio. This would have been the ninth annual party. The event provided children ages 4 to 11 years old from low-income families an added holiday party experience. It was commonly attended by about 300 children each year. Gifts and expenses were provided by donations from the community.

“It’s just one of those things,” Ingstad said. “When we first started it we didn’t have any long-term plans. It just seemed to grow and continue. It always was a lot of fun to do.”

Ingstad said the event may be resurrected in the future.

“This year family things have taken a toll and I really can’t do it,” he said. “That doesn’t mean it won’t happen next year.”
